Week 13b
We spent the majority of this class period critiqueing the rest of the classes home pages that we didn't get to in the last class. We then had free work time to keep coding our own websites. I continued to work on things that were suggested for me to change in our last critique.
Week 13a outside of class
We were supposed to have 20 percent of our subpage done for class on Wednesday. I spent this time working out the glitches in my responsive nav and beginning to layout my subpage.

Week 13a
We had a full class critique today of 50% of our website (the entire home page). It was interesting to see everyone elses designs and discuss how they troubleshot certain issues. I wrote down all of the feedback that I got on my homepage:
- dotted line under logo unnecessary
-body 0 out the margins
-add hover state on social media
-social media: same color
-too many patterns
-high res. buttons
-do all drop shadows the same
-take away some copy in buttons
-footer gets cut off on mobile view
-more spacing in mobile text
-simplify upcoming events
-header image of subpage "trike race" event
-restructure main mission/image

12b in and outside of class
I was having some major problems getting my nav and images to stack responsively like I wanted them to so I ended up redesigning my layout from scratch and adding my content in accordingly. It is working much better now (aside from my nav looking a little funky in the full browser version, that it just styling issues that I will be able to work out). I also need to work on the styling of my main image/mission statement.
Week 12a
At this point we made a quick review of all the completed websites so far. We walked around the classroom and took a look at eachother websites. We then broke up into small groups to critique each others work this took up a big majority of the class. We then had the rest of the class period to work on our websites.
Week 11b outside of class
I worked on coding my website. I was having a lot of trouble with the nav and spent alot of time trying to figure it out. I ended up only getting about half of the homepage done with many glitches in the normal and responsive versions of it.
Week 11b
So today in class we had a class mini critique about our detailed sketches that we had to do for homework. We went around the room and looked at everyones and then had a few people give us specific feedback on our own. I got a lot of good feedback about my layout and also some positive suggestions about how it should scale down to the mobile version.
Professor Pannafino then came around the class and met with each of us one on one to talk about our sketches. He liked my layout but wanted me to expand on the content of my sketches a little bit more. I was instructed to make it more clear what my images will look like, add content where the "news" rectangles are located, and also to actually write in what the link will be in footer.
Here were my sketches. Note: The wrinklyness/red splotches all over these sketches are the biproduct of having a 3 year old who likes to color all over your homework before you get a chance to photograph them... they didn't look like this in class. lol

Week 11a outside of class
It took me a little bit to figure out Axure. It functions similar to illustrator and was really easy to use. I felt like my artboard contraints were a little too small for me and I couldnt figure out how to make my artboard larger and smaller without scaling the elements that I had place inside of it. Also, Kira told me that our wireframes were supposed to be responsive and I could not figure out how to make mine responsive.

Week 11a
I was not able to make it class today. My son got sick and needed to be picked up from his daycare so I had no one to watch the little ones during class time. I contacted Kira outside of class and she filled me on what we did and what our homework assignment is for Wednesday.
-make 2 wireframes using Axure, 1 more conservative and 1 more expirimental.
-a home page and a sub page
-a total of 4 wireframes

Week 10b outside of class and visual inventory
So I finally decided on a nonprofit organization that is in Lancaster!
I decided to work with the United Way of Lancaster for my non-profit website. They are a non-profit organization that helps strengthen the community by working on bettering educational, health, and financial institutions to get families on their feet and children living successful lives. They're website is hard to navigate to and doesn't really talk about their main goal on the home page. It is just a series of images that have a sentence about the community. After searching around their site for a bit, I finally came across a line that I think sums up their main goal,
" We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy.
United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems.
Living united means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future."
Here is a screen shot of their homepage that they have now...

Week 10b
In class we were allowed to do more research and narrow down what non profit organization we wanted to do for our project. We then had time in class to have the opportunity to contact the organization and ask questions.
Again, my nonprofit organization research was not approved by Pannafino so I have until next class to find out which organization I want to work with, contact the organization, and develop a style tile for my web redesign concept.

Week 10 a outside of class
We were suppose to research of possible non profit organizations websites we would like to redo. Pannafino did not approve of any of my choices so I'm back into research mode.
Week 10a
In class we had the second mini-project. I was in a group with Rebecca and Mel. I think that we worked really well together. We were assigned an icon and had to design a single page website using the icon only once. We decided to make a "how to build a hamburger" instructional page (that was also silly) using a very large version of our icon. All in all, I think that it was creative and turned out okay given the time period. I would like to make it responsive and work on the typography in order to make it perfect.
Week 8b
We presented our beer crawl website today in class. This is the feedback we got in class:
-animation looks good
-nav bar possibly having hover states
-work on scaling of bar schedule
-make date more well known
-responsive have tagline disappear
-fix tagline to foam be cohesive
-icons on home page too large
-add padding to sign up
-no shrink button
-love concept looks professional
-restyle bar schedule completely for each media
-no color on sign up page "first name:"
-taxi add yellow or checkboard
-center social media

Week 7b outside of class
Alannah and Kira attended alumni weekend at Millersville and got some great feedback on our website from professionals in the field. They shared these new insights with me and it all sounded great! We also finished the bus schedule page. Alannah did a beautiful job on drawing the buildings. We originally had them white but made them red and i think it makes the page pop much more. We coded in the times and adding padding and spacing and also a subtle touch of a dotted line border seperator.

Week 7b
In class today we had a red robin quick of critiques. We got a lot of really positive feedback. Alannah and I worked on coding, with Alannah doing most of the actual coding as I was dictating the tasks she needed to get done and helping her keep track of the all of the details. Kira was the 'project manager and made a list of things that needed to get done and split up the tasks:
-fint font for banners
-line spacing, color, scaling on all content
-drop shadow/possible grunge on donate icons
-donate button needs padding
-donate button twists hover
-take out grey bar
-donation tag italic
-add titles
-finalize bus for mobile
-pick background color for all content
-beer taps for title bar (600x600)
-content for bar schedule
-link names for bars
-re-illustrate map & bar

Week 7a
We are finally starting to implement more images and divide up content to create more hierarchy. We made the decision to leave the textured background behind and move to divided color to break up content. We want to work in columns of three for the bar and bus page. That grid system was created in the code today along with implementing some images. I also figured out the code for forms and put that on the sign up page. We are working on the color for the background but really like the direction it is going.
